“Green” Services and Earth Friendly Products are Still Successful in this Bad Economy

Enviromedia Earth Friendly Social MarketingA recent study found that four out of every five consumers are purchasing environmentally friendly products and services despite the current economic downturn (and despite the fact that “going green” is sometimes more expensive). Moreover, 50% of those surveyed said they are buying just as many environmentally safe goods and services, 19% said they are buying the same amount, while only 14% said they are buying fewer earth friendly products and services as before the economy slipped.

This, of course, is great news for environmentally friendly franchises and small businesses in the green sector. So if you are thinking of starting an ink cartridge recycling company, or buying a franchise in the green home cleaning sector or the earth friendly pet care industry, perhaps this is a good time to get into this growing industry and take advantage of these green consumer trends in 2009.Green Seal Environmentally Friendly Certification

This 2009 National Green Buying Research study was commissioned by Green Seal and EnviroMedia Social Marketing and was carried out by Opinion Research Corporation. The goal of the study was to reveal consumers thoughts and behaviors about goods and services that “claim” to be good for the environment.

Some of the other interesting findings were:

  • 82% of people are still buying green.
  • Only recycling products is cited more often than buying green, as a means for people to reduce their carbon footprint.
  • 60% of consumers look for minimally packaged goods, 60% buy environmentally safe cleaning products, and 31% buy green personal grooming products.
