The St. Louis Post Dispatch has an interesting article on the franchising industry during an economic downturn. It seems that the franchise industry does well during a recession (as shown in the 2005 economic slide). Franchises offer goods and services that are a necessity whether the economy is up or down. At the same time, managers and executives leave the corporate world and seek self-employment where they can control their future.
